East Gates partners bring a successful track record of investing in Far East centric technology companies; a tight network in the Silicon Valley venture capital community; and, through its limited partners, a strong local presence in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore. East Gate partners collective track record includes Acer Computer, Commerce One, Dialpad Communications, Entevo, Eonex, MediaPlex, Micrus, Redhat and Webex.  East  Gate has been managing a Small Business Investment Corp. (SBIC) Fund since 2000.  More  than 200 SBIC funds are networked throughout the US and bring a unique deal sourcing and syndication opportunity in addition to the main stream venture capital network in Silicon Valley. East Gate has partnered with JAIC America, a subsidiary of Japan Asia Investment Corp. (JAIC), since 2002. JAIC is one of the largest VC funds in Japan, having offices throughout all of the key Asian markets. East Gate has also partnered with the Bokwang Group, a spin-off of the Samsung Group in Korea, since 2000. The Bokwang Group has invested more than $40m in various business ventures in China including a semiconductor packing unit in Jiangsu and an LCD module manufacturing base in Shenzen.
  KEN CHOI  

Mr. Choi is a founding partner and managing director of East Gate Capital Management.  East Gate has offices in Silicon Valley and Seoul, Korea and focuses its investments on early stage IT companies.  Mr. Choi has more than 20 years of venture capital and public equity investment experience in information technology, manufacturing, clean-tech research and development, and IP development and licensing companies. He currently serves in board of director roles at Intematix, Big Spoon (on-line game publisher), 3Cim (social media content provider), Time Voyager (social web game developer) and Blackstone Korea Advisors.

 

Mr. Choi was the president of the Korea Game Industry Agency under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which governs interactive media related policies and promotes the Korean game industry. Prior to East Gate, he was a portfolio manager of publicly traded securities at Pacific Gemini Partners and Sit/Kim International Investment Associates, Inc.  Mr. Choi started his investment career at Citibank, N.A.

 

Mr. Choi is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and holds Master's degree in Engineering Management from Stanford University and a B.S. in Engineering from Seoul National University.

HOWARD LAU
Mr. Lau specializes in the Business Software sector and has extensive experience
in both the investment and operational aspects of the sector. Prior to East Gate,
Mr. Lau was Executive Vice President of SAP Ventures where he invested in thirty companies that returned over four times the capital invested. Mr. Lau has also served in managerial capacities at SAP, Oracle, Sun Microsystems and Andersen Consulting. Mr. Lau has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. Mr. Lau is also the founder of Careminds, a website dedicated to elder care.
     BC BRANT  
BC Brant joined East Gate Capital in 2000. BC's deal experience spans multiple investments in more than twenty early stage venture backed companies.  He has been a board member or observer at 3cim, Cerberian (acquired by Blue Coat Systems), Cradle Technoloies, Delve Networks (acquired by LimeLight Networks), Emdigo, Fidelica Microsystems, GCT SEmiconductor, InSound Medical (acquired by Sonnova), Intematix Corporation, Object Reservoir, QIXO, Sonics, Provost Systems (acquired by Edison Learning), WIS Technologies (acquired by Micronas) and YesVideo. BC has a BS in Economics from Montana State University and an MS in Natural Resource Economics from UC Berkeley.
